I'm 37 and I have an identical twin sister. I also have a set of frat b/g twins. They are almost 13 yrs old. I also have a girl that is 15 and a girl that is almost 10.As a twin, we dressed alike 95% of the time. And we dressed alike until we were in the 8th grade. Looking back now...WAY too long to be dressing alike!!
We were also know as the "twins". Our identity was wrapped up in each other. Called by each other's names, (which began w/ the same letter) dressing alike, doing everything at the same time. Sharing a bedroom, clothes (even underwear!)a birthday cake, got matching gifts....on and on. We were compared continually. We wore our hair the same way. In 8th grade I wanted to keep it long but she wanted it short. I relented and cut my hair. So we would look alike. To this day I wished I hadn't done that. But that's all I knew--to be alike.
As adults, My parents still compare us. She has had a difficult marriage, and divorced. She has also had some problems with her children because of the rough marriage. I have a wonderful marriage, and my children are very well balanced and happy. When things started to "look up" for her. My father made the comment that she is beginning to look like me again. Huh? I thought we were past that!!!
Our relationship is strained at best. She use to be my best friend as a child. But so much has pulled us apart. And I would say my parents had alot to do with that.
Anyway, As you can see there is alot of baggage w/ my life as a twin. I rarely tell people I'm a twin. But I'm thrilled to share that I have twins!
I just want to tell you all who have ident. twins to PLEASE PLEASE give them their own identity!!! They are two very different and special people. With unique qualities. Let them shine on their own!! They can be different..it's ok!
I know dressing them alike is cute and fun. But I would suggest not doing it once they start school.
Even if you have g/g or b/b frat twins. Do not treat them like one person. Technically they are a single baby, they just so happene to be carried at the same time!
Anyway, just my personal experience with being a twin.
