This is my first time here. I'm still learning my way around. My boys are 17 months old. They haven't tried to climb out of the crib yet, but I've been thinking about when the day comes. Any tips from anyone about the switch to toddler beds? My guys are sharing a room (two cribs). Should I have two toddler beds or let them share one? What age is common to stop using the crib? What's going to make them understand that they are supposed to take their nap when I put them in the bed vs. the two of them just playing? Or should I hope that by the time they are ready for a bed, they will be old enough to grasp the concept? Any tips would be appreciated.

My twins Julianne and Nicholas actually always slept in the same crib. Nic was ok in his own crib, but Jul preferred to sleep with him. My best advice is to keep them in a crib until they start climbing out. Jul did it first, so I put each of them in their own single bed without a box spring, that way they weren't very high up. I just put a mattress on the frame. They either slept together or in their own beds. I never had any problem. I figured, as a single mom without an enormous income, why invest in a "toddler" bed,and then a regular one??? They are 3 and I could add a boxspring now, but they are comfortable as they are, so why change yet??

my boys went into regular single beds shortly after their second b-day. instead of spending money on an in between bed that wouldn,t be used for long, i bought bed rails and found beds they can use for several years. they think they're great and sheet sets they are attracted to are easier to find in twin bed size rather than toddler bed size.
