I'm sure this has been asked and answered a million times... but can you tell me which type; fraternal or identical, are hereditary? So for instance... if I had a mother who was an indentical twin and my Husbands father was an Identical twin, does this increase the cances of me having twins. Or does the "twin" gene only have to do with fraternal twins?

Your chance of identical twins in 1 in 250 regardless of whether you are an identical twin or not. It does not seem to be hereditary, although there have been cases where it has seemed to run in some families.

Fraternal twinning CAN be hereditary through the maternal line. There is some belief it could be through the paternal line as well, but this is just speculation. Fraternal twinning is linked to double ovulation, and this can be hereditary, but it does not mean you will have fraternal twins, or any twins at all. It just means there is a slightly greater chance than average of having fraternal twins.

Hi Hope and Holly here you some twins skip a generation like in my family it always skips a generation so when i get older either me or holly or one of our other sisters will have twins I din't think it has to do anything with being a twin just to do with the generation you know
PROUD TO BE TWIN OF HOLLY
